Fragrance of Lent

Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil

The oil is the fruit of lent. It represents whatever is precious to us apart from God poured out for the glory of God. With this sacrifice the whole house which represents the world is filled with the fragrance or glory of God.

Christ takes this sacrifice to the Cross where it is united to his Passion and death, thus providing it an eternal quality. It covers his dead body but also his Resurrected body ascended into heaven. Christ himself brings it to the Father.
